Alumni Landscape Painting Course Planned for May 2008
Kate Nelson had work accepted into the 17th National Ceramic Competition at the San Angelo Musuem of Art in San Angelo, Texas (juror Anna Harris) and The Jersey Shore Clay National in Surf City, New Jersey (juror Dan Hammon). Kate is currently a studio technician at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX.
Stacey Holland, BFA '97 , lives and works in Seattle as a graphic designer for an independent occupational safety and health center at the University of Washington. She builds and manages their website, shoots photos and plans events while still exhibiting her work. See poster for "Gallus Gallus" at left, an exhibition of Stacey's work at Fancy + Pants in Seattle last August 2007.
Michael Beam, MFA '98, Curator of Exhibitions and Collections at the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University, recently traveled to Indiana State University, Terre Haute, to open the second featured venue of the Exquisite Corpse in Glass: Flameworkers Play a Surrealist Game exhibition, organized and traveled by Beam and curated by Marshall Hyde MFA '95. The exhibition was hosted at the ISU University Art Gallery by Gallery Director Melissa Vandenberg SIUC MFA '05. Also participating was ISU Curator of University Collections, John Lustig, MFA '96. Caitlin Beaven Hyde, MFA '95, had artworks included in this exhibit as well!
Secondly, Beam’s curatorial ruminations will be featured in an upcoming book titled Tolerance: The Art of Chris Mars, published by Last Gasp of San Francisco, 2008. Check out info on Michael Beam (MFA '98) to see what he has been up to!
Dana Hargrove, MFA '01, will exhibit her work in the Bridgette Mayer Gallery's group show at the 2008 Red Dot Fair New York!
Tim Kowalczyk, BFA '07 has been accepted into the Illinois State University's Graduate Program in Ceramics for this August 2008.
Amy Pleticha, BFA '07 has been accepted at MCAD (Minneapolis College of Art and Design) and will be starting her first year of graduate school this August 2008.
In February’s edition of Chicago Magazine , they rate the top websites that are Chicago focused and/or based. Bad at Sports was kindly named and showcased in the Art & Culture category. Bad at Sports is powered by Chris Hudgens, BFA '01, and Duncan Richard.
Jason Mejer, MFA '99, exhibited his work in the show, "Measured Response," at Eureka College from November 9, 2007-January 25, 2008.
Ben Cowden, MFA '07, has a new website, www.twentysevengears.com.
Bridget Parris, BFA '91, has work in the "New York, New York, New York, so nice we named it Thrice," group exhibition at Flux Factory, December 14, 2007 through January 2008.
Siona Benjamin, MFA '89, exhibits her work in "Blue Like Me," at the Hermitage Museum and Gardens, through January 25, 2008. Siona also recently had an article published on her work in Nashim: A Jewish Feminist Gender Studies Journal, Fall 2007, published by Brandeis University: "Finding Home: The Midrashic Art of Siona Benjamin" by Professor Ori Soltes." Mark Salsbury, MFA '07, Glass, is teaching & working at Third Degree Glass Factory in St. Louis, as the director of the Kiln working studio.
Melissa Vandenberg, MFA '05, has been named Director of Indiana State University's Art Gallery!
Jeremy Griffith, BFA '06, currently a graduate student at Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY, was commissioned by S. Burlingham Inc. in conjunction with Baccarat Crystal, to produce three awards to be presented to 42nd President William J.Clinton, 41st President George H. W. Bush, and Melinda French Gates. The awards were presented on behalf of the "Save the Children" organization at their 75th anniversary benefit that was held at the Lincoln Center in New York City on September 6th, 2007.
