Saturday Young Artists Program
The Saturday Young Artists Program is beginning its tenth
year here at Southern. Each Saturday pre-service art education
majors prepare and teach art lessons to youngsters and adolescents
from the Greater Carbondale community. Our program size averages around 25 students per semester. Art instruction is offered to
students from kindergarten (five years old) through high school.

This fall, the Saturday morning students will learn how to draw a face, create shadows and facial expressions. Students can explore clay, paint, and drawing materials to make several images of themselves, their family and friends. Download the flyer for "Portrait Studio." This requires Adobe Acrobat.
Who Can Attend?
K-2 grades (early primary group)
3-5 grades (elementary group)
6-8 grades (middle school students)
9-12 grades (high school level)

The benefits of this program are two-fold: (1) pre-service art
teachers gain knowledge and experience in teaching prior to
student teaching, and (2) community students without school
art programs can obtain continuing art instruction.
Our programs are fully inclusive for students experiencing significant disabilities.

To register your child for the program, you may download the application form(s).
This requires Adobe Acrobat.
