Facilities

The glass department at SIUC features several facilities:

  • Hotshop - A fully equiped glass-blowing studio with two 500 lb day tanks, two large glory-holes, four annealers, one smokin' solid marver, and various other gear.

  • Flat glass studio - A large room dedicated to flat glass including four side-loader Paragon annealers, stained glass resources, and our supa-flat-hot-snot 80 grit grinding wheel. Also located in the Flat glass area is one Graduate studio.

  • Glass house - The glass house is located separately from the other facilities. It houses the cold shop featuring 80 and 200 grit grinding wheels, the sphirical-miricle Maya wheel, two belt polishers, a diamond wheel, several auto-feed oil cutoff saws, a water-fed chop saw, two serium wheels, and lots 'o space for hand-lapping. Also located in the glass house are four Graduate studios, and a classroom. And one fridge with ketchup from 1973.
