Late-Breaking News From the Ceramics Department It’s been a busy semester here at SIU-C. Our first visiting artist, Masaya Imanishi of Nara Japan, came for two days in October and impressed everyone by throwing several enormous pots in porcelain. Masaya also demonstrated his blue and white decorating techniques and gave a nice slide presentation. Our second visiting artist, Jeff Oestreich of Minnesota, will be here on November 14th & 15th 2002. He will demonstrate his wheel-thrown and altered functional pottery and will give a slide presentation on the 15th. Spring semester brings the Clay Cup, a national, juried, biennial exhibition. Our Juror for the 2003 Clay Cup will be tromp l’oille sculptor Richard Shaw. Past jurors include John Gill, Sandy Simon, and Ron Nagle, to mention a few. Clay Cup is always a good show and it is exciting to have an exhibition of national scope here at SIU-C. Harris Deller, head of Ceramics and director of the School of Art and Design, was busy this summer teaching a well-attended workshop at Anderson Ranch. Steve Grimmer has been involved with the Empty Bowls project to benefit the Good Samaritan House in Carbondale.
