Cheonae Kim taught in the Drawing/Painting/Printmaking areas. She received her MFA from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1986. Professor Kim continues to be an active exhibitor. Her work ranges from small jewel-like paintings to major architectural installations. She is widely represented. Galleries representing her work include the Zolla Lieberman Gallery in Chicago, Michael Berger Gallery in Pittsburgh and Philip Slein Gallery in St. Louis. Major exhibitions include Milwaukee Museum, UCLA Hammer Museum, the Rockford Museum, and the Chicago Cultural Center.

Professor Kim's third public commission (pictured left), an installation of two ceramic tiled walls in the therapeutic pool of the Laguna Honda Hospital, San Francisco, CA, was completed in February 2009. Her two previous commissions include the 16th District police station in Chicago and the McCormick West extension in Chicago.

"Mediterranean 224," (pictured right) at the Zolla Lieberman Gallery in Chicago consisted of a series of small scale collages based on the Mediterranean sea.

Professor Kim has an extensive national and international exhibition record. Her exhibitions include: UCLA Hammer Museum; Milwaukee Art Museum; Rockford Art Museum; Glasgow School of Art, Scotland; and Bregenz, Austria. Professor Kim received a National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artists Fellowship Grant for painting in Washington, DC, in 1993.
