Cortney Boyd grew up in Fort Collins, Colorado, in a family that was actively involved in the arts. In 2001 she received her B.A. in studio art with an emphasis in printmaking as well as her B.A. in art education from Hastings College in Nebraska. While attending her last semester at Hastings College, Boyd decided to take a glass class, which impelled her to pursue her work in glass after being captivated by the material. She received her M.F.A. in glass from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2008.
