Barbara Bickel

Barbara Bickel is an Assistant Professor in Art Education at SIUC. She received a Ph.D. in Art Education (Curriculum Studies) from The University of British Columbia, Canada and she completed an arts-based MA in Education at The University of British Columbia. She also holds a BFA in Painting from the University of Calgary and a BA in Sociology and Art History from the University of Alberta.

Cortney Boyd

In 2001 Cortney Boyd received her B.A. in studio art with an emphasis in printmaking as well as her B.A. in art education from Hastings College in Nebraska. Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2008 and is now visiting assistant professor in glass.

Bill Boysen

Bill Boysen founded the glass program at SIUC. He studied with Harvey Littleton at the University of Wisconsin, where he earned his MFA in 1966. He is represented by the Wexner Gallery, Philadelphia, PA.

Patti Chalmers

Patti Chalmers received her BFA in printmaking from the University of Manitoba in 1994, and her MFA in ceramics from the University of Minnesota in 2001. Currently she is an Assistant Professor of Ceramics at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

Hee-Hun Cho

Hee-Hun Cho is a second-year MFA student in sculpture, and President of C4, Critical Forum. Prior to coming to Carbondale he earned a B.F. A. in sculpture from the University of Northern Colorado.

Luca Cruzat

Luca Cruzat earned her Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking in 2006 from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale

Harris Deller

Harris Deller

Harris Deller is a Professor and the Head of Ceramics in the School of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He received his MFA in 1973 from the Cranbrook Academy of Art and has lived inSouthern Illinois for over 25 years.

Al Denyer

Alison Denyer is Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing at the University of Utah. She has a BA Hons, in Painting and Drawing from the Winchester School of Art, Winchester, England, and an MFA ,1998, from the SIUC SoAD.

LouAnn and J-Bird Elwell

LouAnn and J-Bird Elwell are the owners of Southpass Beads, Cobden, IL. J-Bird is the beadmaker and LouAnn is the jewelry designer. In addition, LouAnn is a School of Art and Design staff member.

"Autumn's Beauty" - Handmade lampwork glass bead with autumn trees circling the entire bead, with stone beads dangling below, including carnelian, agate and jasper.  Necklace linked with sterling silver wire, gemstones and goldstone.  Handmade sterling silver S-hook clasp; length can be adjusted from 19-21 inches.

Joel Feldman

Joel Feldman is an Emeritus Professor of Printmaking. He received an MFA in Printmaking from Indiana University and a BFA in Drawing
and Painting from Carnegie Institute of Technology. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions.

Joshua Goss is currently doing his MFA in Blacksmithing at SIUC.  His work is influenced by natural forms and the forging process.  It displays rich texture and deep patination.

Clare Frank Hairstans received her BA in art history and printmaking from the University of Dallas, and her MFA in 2D Art from SIUC in 2004, with her emphasis in printmaking.

Travis Janssen

Travis Janssen is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the School of Art and Design where he teaches printmaking and 2-D foundations. He received an MFA in Printmaking from Arizona State University in 2007 and a BFA from the University of Wisconsin- Madison in 2000.

Fiona Jappy

Fiona Jappy received her BA (Hons) Degree in Painting from Edinburgh College of Art and her MFA in Painting from the School of Art and Design. After graduating from SIUC in 2004 she relocated back to Scotland.

L. Brent Kington was a professor at SIUC from 1961-1996 and Director of the School of Art and Design from 1981 to 1995. He received a BFA degree from the University of Kansas and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Kington is one of America's foremost sculptural metalsmiths.

Rachel Kirkendoll

Rachel Kirkendoll is a current graduate student in the sculpture department at SIU Carbondale. She received a Bachelors of Fine Arts in sculpture from the University of Kansas in May 2009.

Gary Kolb

Gary Kolb holds a BA in Religions form Northwestern University and an MFA in Photography from Ohio University.  He is Dean and Professor of Photography in the College of Mass Communication and Media Arts at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

A former faculty member in the School of Art and Design, Carole Loeffler now teaches at Arcadia University in Glenside Pennsylvania. She earned a BFA from Mason Gross School of Fine Arts, Rutgers University and a MFA fromUniversity of South Florida. Carole has shown her work widely, including in New York, Chicago, and Philadelphia.

Alex Lopez

Alex Lopez earned his MFA degree in sculpture from Alfred University, NY (1998). He taught at Trinity University and The University of Texas, both located in San Antonio before coming to Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Graham McDougal

Graham McDougal earned his M.F.A. from SIUC in 2001 and his B.F.A in Fine Art from the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee, Scotland in 1998. He is currently a lecturer in Printmaking and Electronic Imaging at Cornell University.

Jerry Monteith

Jerry Monteith received his MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1978. His mixed media installations and works in wood have been widely exhibited, with images and reviews in Sculpture magazine and in the New Art Examiner.

Dan Overturf is an Associate Professor of Photography in the Department of Cinema and Photography at SIUC. He has an MFA in Printmaking from SIUC School of Art (1983).

Mark Pease

Mark Pease earned his MFA from the University of Pennsylvania in 2003. He is currently Assistant Professor of Digital Media at SIUC.

Serena Perrone

Serena Perrone majored in Painting, Art History, and French at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. In 2006 she received her MFA in Printmaking from Rhode Island School of Design, concentrating on large-scale woodcuts and silverpoints.

Josh Sanseri is a professional photographer in Los Angeles. Originally from Portland, Oregon, his BA is from the SIUC Department of Cinema and Photography, and his 2004 MFA, from the School of Art Design.

Xuhong Shang

Xuhong Shang received his B.F.A degree in Painting and Drawing from Shanghai Teacher’s University in Shanghai, China, his M.A. degree in Painting and Drawing from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois, and his M.F.A degree in Painting from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. He is currently a Professor in Painting at SIUC.

Rick Smith earned his MFA from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1992. He is an Associate Professor specializing in blacksmithing and forge welding techniques.

Buzz Spector

Buzz Spector, SIU BA in Art, 1972, MFA, University of Chicago, 1978, was recently named Dean of the College and Graduate School in Art in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis.

Tom Walsh Tom Walsh taught Sculpture at SIUC from 1966 through 1999. To date he has had 61 solo exhibitions (since 1962) and is included in 65 public and corporate collections. He received many major awards including a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant, Prix de Rome for Sculpture, NEA Project Grant, Illinois Arts Council Grant and Illinois Arts Council Project Completion Grant. Tom and his family now reside in San Jose, California.
Kay Pick Zivkovich

Kay Pick Zivkovich, Assistant Director of the School of Art and Design, and Professor, teaches in the Communication Design program.  Kay earned her B.A. in Art Education, an MFA in Drawing, Printmaking and Painting, and an MS in Education, concentrating on Higher Education and Art Administration from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
